What is included in car AC service?

  • Reading time:5 mins read

Traveling without air conditioning can be miserable, whether it’s for your everyday commute or a weekend break. Low cooling, odor, and a malfunctioning compressor are just a few of the problems that can arise. Although frequent AC maintenance should be a habit, it is typically recommended that a full automotive AC service be performed once a year to ensure maximum cooling efficiency. You should also know when your car requires service so that you can avoid minor breakdowns.

Components of a car AC?

  1. Compressor

The compressor acts as a pump, pressurizing the refrigerant before it is transferred to the evaporator. A drive belt powers the compressor. Among other things, it powers the power steering and the water pump.

  1. Refrigerant

The refrigerant is a liquid that is housed within the coils of a car air conditioning system and is responsible for the entire cooling process. R134-a, commonly known as Tetrafluoroethane, is the most common refrigerant used in car air conditioning.

  1. Condenser

A condenser is a coil mesh. These coils are arranged in a zigzag manner to efficiently remove heat from the compressed gas. It works as a heat exchanger, converting the refrigerant from gas to liquid and cooling it.

  1. Evaporator

A condenser is the polar opposite of an evaporator. It restores the gaseous condition of the liquid refrigerant. It distributes the heat while also cooling it down further. The evaporator is housed within the vehicle. It’s usually hidden under the dashboard by the manufacturers.

  1. Valve of Expansion

The evaporator and the expansion valve function together. It regulates the pressure of the AC refrigerant as it circulates through the system.

  1. Dryer/Accumulator

A desiccant is included in the dryer unit. It is in charge of removing moisture from the air conditioning system and the cabin.

Reasons your car’s AC might not be working properly

  1. THERE IS A REFRIGERANT LEAK IN YOUR CAR

This is one of the most prevalent reasons for a car’s air conditioner not working. Leaks can occur for a variety of reasons; they could be the consequence of rubber seals and hoses failing over time, allowing the refrigerant, to escape. The major hazard when this happens is that moisture can seep inside your car’s cooling system and mix with the refrigerant, which can lead to no cool air in your car. Moisture and Freon combine to form a toxic acidic mixture that can corrode your air conditioner and cause lasting harm.

  1. THE FANS IN YOUR COOLING UNIT ARE BROKEN

Your car utilizes cooling fans to pump the refrigerated air into the cabin. There will be no air coming out of the vents if there is an issue with the fans.

Cooling fans might stop working for a variety of causes, including blown fuses, an electrical short, or being fractured by road debris. Fortunately, this is a fairly straightforward repair; your mechanic should be able to swiftly replace it and get you back on the road.

  1. THE COMPRESSOR IS OUT OF ORDER

Your air conditioner relies on a compressor to keep the air flowing, but that refrigerant won’t move if the compressor isn’t working properly. A compressor can potentially cause issues if the compressor’s clutch becomes jammed. If it becomes caught in the “on” position, your air conditioner will run continually, and if it becomes stuck in the “off” position, the compressor will not engage.

  1. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR CONDENSER

The condenser is essential because it depressurizes, cools, and liquefies humid air from the air compressor. If your air conditioner isn’t cooling as well as it used to, it could be due to a failing condenser.

  1. YOU ARE EXPERIENCING AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM

Electrical problems with your car’s air conditioning might be caused by a variety of factors. Failed switches, a blown fuse, an issue with the control module, or something else could be the cause. Fuses can short out; causing the air conditioner to stop working, or a loose connection can cause an electrical short that can be quickly repaired.

What is included in the car air conditioning service?

  • When you take your car in for an air conditioning service, the technician begins by monitoring the cabin temperature while the air conditioner is running. It should be between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius.
  • The effectiveness of the air conditioner to cool is affected when the refrigerant level drops. In fact, this is one of the most typical reasons why your car’s air conditioning isn’t working properly. They flush the refrigerant out and top it up to the recommended amount using a pressure gauge and precision AC gas recharging equipment.
  • The compressor is the most expensive component in an automobile air conditioning system. It is the source of all power. If the compressor fails, the entire air conditioning system will fail. As a result, if there is a visible leak, it could be due to a faulty seal or bearing. It’s possible that the compressor’s buzzing noise indicates the same thing. The best method to keep a compressor in good operating order is to have it inspected and serviced once a year.
  • The condenser, which is located in front of the engine, is examined for bent or damaged fins, as well as a clogged line. A clogged condenser is caused by the accumulation of leaves, dust, and debris. It can also wreak havoc on a company’s reputation.
  • They also check to verify if the dryer is working properly. They also check the evaporator for any moisture buildup. It’s not good that there’s a lot of moisture in the air. This is due to the possibility of water seeping into key electrical components beneath the dashboard.

Finally, the cabin filter is cleaned, also known as the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) filter, which is located under the glove box. The filter must be updated every 15,000 kilometers.

To avoid such car AC breakdowns you just need regular checkups. T-Serv has certified mechanics and they make sure the breakdowns are minimal and the car remains new.
